This is very nice piece of work and not something I was able to find locally. I think it is going to be perfect but I do note I will have to shave the handle shaft a tiny bit to get the head on but not a problem and I am very happy to have a handle and not have to buy a new tool
Could not find a replacement “Adze Eye” style handle for our Ground Breakers brand mattock at any local supply store. The Adze Eye style handle is approx 1” in diameter at its bottom end, where your hand holds it. This end of the handle passes through the slightly tapered rectangular opening in the mattock cutting head. The tool head then slides up the length of the handle. The hickory wood adze eye handle is gradually tapered to an approx 1.25” X 2” rectangular tool-end. As the mattock tool head slides up the length of the 1”
diameter handle, it will gradually friction fit in the rectangular eye of the mattock tool head. We had to sand the hickory handle slightly to get a good friction fit with approximately 1/4 of wood protruding from the tool head once it was firmly friction seated. We have been using the mattock with its new handle extensively and are quite happy with the performance of this new handle.

My handle showed up as promised. I did minimal sanding to fit my adz head. looks good and works great. Thank you for a quality handle. Nice straight grain hickory.
the handle is smaller than the eye of the tool, so i am going to have to build it up. the wood grain looks good. the handle needs to be longer. l should have done more research
We list the length so you know before you buy. The mfg. of the heads (V&B) makes a 36' long handle just the same as the 26'
Great fit and quality revived great grandads adze.
The tool end was a bit large but that allowed for a custom fit. Final sizing with a straight cabinet scraper worked perfectly. After restoring and sharpening the head and installing it on the handle, I have a well balanced tool.
Like a dummy, I got the dimensions of my mattock head wrong and thus bought a wrong handle. All my fault. The handle you made for me is a splendid piece of wood work and deserves five stars. I think I'll use it in my pickup as a club.

36" handle fit great, I sanded just a little to get a deeper fit, probably didn't have to but I did. Oiled handle and went to work

I bought this handle for my small pick head. I rounded the square corners with a belt sander and sand paper because the eye of the pick is oval. I got a perfect fit. The handle is perfect for my small pick. It is a beautiful piece of hickory with a very nice clear finish, no blemishes, no flaws. Just a perfectly shaped piece of hickory. The handle will outlast me, and probably the pick head, too. I like it so much, I ordered a handle for my small axe. When I need other handles for my tools, I will come back to these guys. They make the best!

I did not anticipate the high quality and fit that I received. I was expecting fine tuning would be required for fit. I slid the old head on the new handle and had a perfect fit. High quality at a very fair price.

I accidentally broke the handle on an unusual yard tool a few years back. After searching in local stores and home centers, I was unable to find anything close enough to fit the rectangular top of the handle that I could even modify. Even the length of whatever I found did not match the original handle.
I decided recently to try again, and after searching a few sites, I learned that my tool was not a mattock but more resembled an adz handle. Once I found your site, I searched and found a replacement handle that appeared to be a perfect match.
Upon receipt I removed the old remaining handle stub and quickly inserted the new handle. I fit like it was made for it. Now we plan to restore the metal portion of the tool since we have such a great new handle.
