18" G.I. Pick Handle American Hickory

I received my 18" G.I. Pick Handle American Hickory and I went and purchased a Nicholson 8 in. Woodcraft Half-Round Rasp and took to cutting down the handle. It went easy and fast and measured for fit as I went along and with a little over 1 hour I had finished and I was able to snuggly add my pick axe head marked 1943 US DIAMOND CALK and I added a little paint so as not to lose it in the garden dirt.

Didn't fit.

Received my 18' GI pick handle, looked great, good piece of wood, excellent finish. only problem was it didn't fit.
I was refurbishing my dad's GI pick he had in the army. Its marked U.S. 1944. Handle length was 18' so I thought that I had it made when I found one that was made for it. Had to do a lot of sanding to make it fit and wound up having to sand the whole handle and refinish it. It doesn't look near as good now.

Seems like you needed the Army pick and not the G.I. pick. Please note we offer two small 18' pick handles that are different sizes.

Hard to find handle

I had looked for a replacement 18” handle for my old GI pickax. They’re not easy to find. This company has them, and they’re great to deal with. Yeah, it takes a while, but they explain why and that’s cool. I ordered a 36” handle for my garden mattock, like the GI pickax, another gardening tool I found out walking in the woods. If you’ve checked every hardware store and the big box stores and come up empty, check Beaver-tooth’s selection or give them a call or email.

Handy little pick

The new handle made it a new tool. A little sanding and it fit GREAT.

18”. Pick handle

Excellent quality but I will have to do a lot of work to do it small enough to fit the pick head.

Our Army pick is smaller perhaps that is what you need.

High quality

I am impressed by the quality of the handle I received. I do have to make some minor adjustments due to the pick I have being significantly smaller than the head of the handle I received, leaving about 5 inches still protruding from the top. This is in no way due to the handle itself but is due to the oddball nature of the pick itself.

Pick Handle

It's hard to find pick handles for these little GI tools, and this one is just right. Nice job!

A mistake

Unfortunately, I ordered the wrong handle for my G.I. pick axe and had to re-order for the right one. However, the craftsmanship of the handle and the quality of the wood used is outstanding. Now, I just have to find the right head for the handle.

Yes, as we talked about the Army pick handle will fit your pick much better than the G.I. Pick Handle.

Nice wood

This was my first order from Beaver- tooth.com so I did not know what to expect. It took a while for me to receive the product, longer than I had hoped. When the product arrived, I was delighted to see that it was a quality piece of wood with nice tight grain and the fit was almost perfect. All in all, I'm very satisfied with my purchase and will order more handles as needed.

Not just a handle

Perfect fit for a very, very old small digging tool. This is not just a handle, it is a work of art. Thanks for making this available.

18" G.I. Pick Handle

Handle was well formed and had a nice finish on it. Unfortunately, due to the significant taper in the pick's formed eye, I had to spend a considerable amount of time using a rasp and sandpaper to get the pick head to fit properly at the end of the handle. In the process I lost both the nice finish and uniform factory contour on the head end of the handle. When I purchased the handle, I bought the one that had the closest eye size to the pick head's large eye but the significant taper between the small (lower) eye and the large (upper) eye of the pick head required a great deal of fitment work to enable the head to slide up the full length of the handle.

Yes, depending on your tool hand shaping is required. I have done a good bit my self to fit my old Diamond Caulk and Plumb Army Picks.

I was very pleased the the new handle. I've got a few other tools that need new handles. I will be ordering again soon!
