Just what I wanted

I inherited a cutting mattock that my father and I had used together when I was in high school and that he first got before I was born. The handle was shot but the head was good and I couldn't stand the idea of putting a fiberglass handle in this classic tool. This handle is exactly what I needed, arrived in perfect condition, and feels like excellent quality.

New Life for a Family Heirloom

I put this beautiful handle into a 5# Grub Hoe/Axe head. The head is from my grandfather's farm and I found it in his hand made tool chest. I do not know if it was his or if it belonged to another relative from his generation. I shaped the handle to fit head with a tight and uniform fit allowing 1 inch to extend above it. I have not used to tool and do not know if I will, but it is ready to work.

New Life For A Hand Forged Pick

While out in Colorado in July 2025 I found a hand forged pick head on the tailings pile of an old silver mine. Though rusty, it was in great shape for being about 140 years old. I measured the opening in pick head and upon contacting Beaver-Tooth Handle Co, they told me that they thought that their 36" Railroad / Clay Pick / Mattock Cutter Handle 5LB. #6 Eye would work in the pick head I found. Well, it fit perfectly and I now have the restored pick hanging on my wood shed wall. It's really great to have a US company still making quality replacement tool handles-- Keep up your great work !

Exceptional work.

My father had this pick axe for as long as I can remember. Over 60 yrs... I got it, used it loved it. Kept it safe in my shed when we moved 1300 klms from Manitoba. Used it here, where low and behold the handle broke in 2. Let's just say I understand things breaking after 60 yrs.... just saying.
I found Beaver -Tooth, they have the perfect handle. I ordered it. In the meantime I cleaned up the Pick Axe steel, and now they are one.
Absolutely over the moon with it.
Thank you so much for helping me restore, something I have many fond memories of my Father about. Working in the woods NE of Kenora helping my Grandparents. Missing them all.
Thanks again.
